FAQS ABOUT ACUPUNCTURE

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points that have been shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. These points have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of 2000 to 5000 years. Recently, electromagnetic research has confirmed their locations.

Throughout history, more people have been treated with acupuncture and Oriental Medicine than all other health modalities combined. This medical system continues to help people throughout this country and around the world.

HOW DOES ACUPUCTURE WORK?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory explains that either an imbalance or a blockage of the energy (Qi) circulating through the body causes pain and disease. By allowing Qi to flow to areas where it is deficient and away from areas where it is excessive, acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number of treatments needed varies according to the condition. Treatment is usually scheduled one or two times per week. Chronic cases may require treatment for several weeks. Occasional treatments throughout the year can maintain good health.

WILL I FEEL THE NEEDLES?

Acupuncture needles are very thin and are inserted quickly to avoid the sensation of pain. Sometimes there is a momentary mild discomfort. Once the needles are in place, the patient usually does not feel them.

ARE THE NEEDLES CLEAN?

Yes. Only disposable needles are used.
