Ongoing Class: Beginning and Intermediate Self Defense

If you are looking for a rewarding workout that builds confidence, this is the class for you. Come and learn how to defend yourself and get a powerful cardio workout at the same time. You’ll learn how to punch and kick with correct form, and how to escape the grasp of a potential assailant – all while building strength and stamina. No prior experience is needed – the entire curriculum is geared toward each individual’s pace and skill level.

Jacob Paulisich is a trained martial artist with a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He has trained for the last 15 years with Sixth Degree Black Belt Tommy Young of Superior Martial Arts.

Class Dates: September 24 – October 17
Days and Times: Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30 – 7:30pm
Gym Members Package: $165 for 4 weeks (8 classes)
Non-Gym Members Package: $200 for 4 weeks (8 classes)
Drop-in Fee: $30 per class

Free Wellness Seminar: Perfect Posture

Attend our seminar and stand up straighter!

Many of us suffer from back, shoulder, and neck pain due to poor posture. Often the remedy is as simple as learning and practicing good posture, using good body mechanics during the day, and practicing regular exercise. Join us at MPTW for a free seminar led by Chris Ernst, Physical Therapist, and Amanda Smith, Certified Personal Trainer. You will learn how to identify your particular posture issues, along with specific exercises to help correct your posture during the day. Check out our exercise of the month at the end of this newsletter to get you started!

Free Workshop: Introduction to Free Weights

Have you ever wondered how to start using free weights safely and effectively? Have you been using weights for a while, but aren’t sure if your form is correct? Our Certified Personal Trainer, John Steinnes, will lead you through a one-hour introduction to free weights. You will learn the correct form to keep you injury free and how to choose an appropriate weight as you practice exercises that target the large muscle groups. Let the machines rest for a while and rev up your workout with free weights!

SUMMER CIRCUIT SERIES

Power up your lunchtime hour! Boost your metabolism, tone up with lean muscle, and challenge your heart! This summer we are offering a noontime circuit class to excite and challenge your workout. Circuit training is a series of strength and cardio exercises performed consecutively one after another. Exercises are separated by brief, timed rest intervals and built to accommodate a variety of levels. The class will utilize machines, free weights, stability, and medicine balls. We will put a twist on old exercises and introduce you to new ones!

Students are asked to warm up 5 min prior to class. The first 10 minutes of class will be a brief demonstration and the last 15 minutes will be core and stretching. Sign up is on a month-to-month basis and limited to 8 participants. Register early to reserve your spot!

SELF DEFENSE FOR WOMEN

Calling all women!

Montclair Physical Therapy and Wellness is offering a self-defense course designed specifically for you! Let our instructor, Jacob Paulisich, teach you the basic concepts and skills of self-protection that can be quickly learned and practically applied. Learn how to gain better awareness, verbal confrontation skills, and physical techniques to help you prepare, resist, and escape attacks.

MPTW WALKING CLUB

Moderate intensity cardio through walking! Join us as we navigate you through Montclair’s pristine hills and trails and help jumpstart your path to weight loss and well-being. Walks will last 75 min and include warm up, stretching, and cool down. Wednesdays will be health talk days as we cover a wide array of topics including nutrition, exercise tips to boost metabolism, and specific issues like menopause, diabetes, cardiac rehab, etc… Studies show that low impact cardio leads to healthy joints and increase heart and lung function. Sign up early to receive our early bird special!

Start Date: June 25th- September 12th (12 week program)
Days and Times: Mondays and Wednesdays 4-5:15pm

Fees: $130/month or $350 for 3 months

Core Training

Start Date: Ongoing
Class schedule: Tuesdays 6:30-7:00pm
(Additional times will be added based on demand)
Fee: $75 for an 8-class package (Note: you can sign up any time for the package; you then have 12 weeks to attend the 8 classes)
Drop-in rate: $15 per class

Join us after your workday for this 30-minute class targeting both back and abdominal muscles. Developing strong core muscles is essential for overall strength and balance, improved posture, and a healthy cardiovascular system. You will also decrease lower back pain. Notice improvement with every class!

It’s the perfect time to ramp up your metabolism by targeting larger muscle groups and working toward that six-pack!

 

Managing Knee Pain

Start Date: May 24th
Class Schedule: Thursdays 12:30-1pm, Saturdays 9:30-10am

Improving flexibility, strength, and stability in the knee joint

After a great response to our lecture on Arthritic Knees, we are pleased to present a comprehensive six-week series on Managing Knee Pain. This series aims to help clients who experience arthritis; are post-knee surgery; are post-rehab for knee replacements; have ACL/Meniscus injuries; or just experience general knee pain. These half-hour classes will meet twice a week for six weeks. Each week we will focus on a different topic, starting with mobility and strength and finishing with stability.

The first class will include an introductory lecture and an assessment of your current level of functionality. Classes will be tailored to accommodate your needs! Please let our front desk know your interest and availability. Call 339-2116, or just drop by.

 

NEW MEDITATION CLASSES

MPTW is pleased to welcome Dr. Illana Berger, who has been practicing and teaching meditation for over 20 years. In this class, you will learn how to use meditation to relieve your stress and gain control of your mind, body, and emotions. This meditation class does not require you to believe in anything at all you simply learn the techniques and begin to explore.
